Old Harry rocks

I have painted this from a series of sketches and watercolours that I made whilst we were on holiday in Dorset last half term. This is Old Harry rocks looking south from Studland bay direction. I wanted to capture the amazing number of colours in the rocks which look white at first but then reveal pinks and blues. The sun was shining and the sea looked very inviting.  I have used fairly thick impasto brushwork and I spent a long time mixing paint to acheive the colour of the sea that I was after. It is framed in a bespoke grey frame with a pale grey slip and a gold leaf guilded  inner rim to bring out the warmth of the painting.
