Hooray for ‘Assemble’ the collective of young artist who have won this year’s Turner prize for their Granby Four Streets project in Liverpool. Where politicians have failed, Assemble cleared away the mess and despair left in dozens of abandoned houses to create new terraces, murals and a winter garden. The Turner prize has, for as long as I can remember, been awarded to contemporary artists relished only by the artistic community. Assemble are doing something fresh and different, what a breath of fresh air.
