Facing the Modern: the portrait in Vienna 1900

I visited this exhibition over the weekend and absolutely loved it but was quite disappointed by the hang. It really would have worked better chronologically, I think. That said, there were some beautiful portraits that were worth going alone. I particularly loved seeing some early Klimt and this posthumous portrait of Ria Munk really shows Klimt’s working methods. Fabulous. I had long wanted to see those Scheile’s too – such a tragedy for art that he died so young. Who knows what he could have produced given the lifespan of Picasso.
